Maybe you have low activity CK1097 spark gap tube, it had very tiny initial amount of Cs-137, so it maybe almost not detectable today without a lead shield.

In contrast, TG-36 tube had larger initial activity and even it old today, you still can detect it nicely with SBM-20. I have 0.1uCi source from Spectrum Techniques and I compared the TG-36 activity related to the 0.1uCi CPS. Approximately same.

I do have the CK1097. It is detectable, but only barely. I bought it as a calibration source (as well as a LYSO crystal) for when I do eventually get my gamma spectrometer together, one way or another! I find it quite astonishing the difference in activity as I had assumed that (from a physics and electronics point) one cs-137 spark gap would be similar to another cs-137 spark gap in terms of activity. How wrong I am!

It's very tempting to buy one from ebay, but at nearly $50 delivered is a little much for me right now. I've already spent a load just lately on my hobby... I'll keep my eye on it. There are 9 available right now and I can't see them all going fast.

Yes it expensive for an old stock tube, but still cheaper than disk source
