Hey all
We're having some power disruption issues due to an intermittent short. I'm in the process of trying to determine where exactly it is.
There may be some further service disruption, but rest assured radmon.org has not disappeared!

Had another outage, still not quite got to the bottom of it. I have eliminated quite a few possibilities - I think there is water getting into a crack in an external feed cable which will need replacement. Need to 100% identify as the culprit before replacing it.

I could run some cable insulation tests on it that would show its the bad cable... wonder if anyone knows if there is a low cost meter that might detect this?

Get your suspected cable, disconnect both ends, connect up 29kV flyback transformer, stand back and turn on. Locate where the ground is fizzing and smoking!

Thanks for the heads up.

An insulation tester or  Megohmmeter such as * this * one can verify the insulation on the cable.  Open both ends; a lower resistance means the cable has a leak.

Found the problem! A trickle of water from outside was getting into a 4 way extension socket out in a shed. Spend a lot of time looking at the primary wiring of the building, doh!! Explains why the trip happened when the weather was extreme.
